Disney Rumors

Bob Iger must not have gotten the job of ambassador to China.  The reason I’m saying he didn’t get the job is because of the newest rumor out of Fort Mickey.  That Disney is looking to buy out MGM Studios.  As bad a shape as Disney is in, they are looking at yet another spending spree.  And that reeks of Iger. Although, it’s not the absolutely absurd price of $70 billion that he paid for Fox.  No, MGM is going for the bargain basement price...

Question for My Readers

I was looking at starting up an RPG campaign with a few friends. The modern D&D rules have gotten ridiculous and I hate Wizards of the Coast. I had heard some very good things about Basic Fantasy. Then I looked at the writer, Chris Gonnerman's Twitter feed. I will not give this guy my money. That will not happen. So, do any of you, know of any Eighties style Dungeons and Dragons RPG systems that aren't Woke AF?

Blogs and Ends: The Non-Romantic Valentine’s Edition

There wasn’t a lot on the popculture front this week.  But here is a quick review of it.FIRSTWandaVision The news from this week’s WandaVision, was the return of Quicksilver.  I had wondered if something like this was going to happen when he got mentioned in episode three.  When Pietro was spoken of, I remembered the Solomon like, cutting the baby in half deal that had to be struck between Fox and Disney a few years back.  Disney had clear rights to the Avengers and Fox...

It’s Time To Admit Not Everything Put On Paper Is Art

I read a lot of Fantagraphics books because they put out beautiful hardcover editions of old Steve Ditko, Carl Barks, Bill Everett, and other classic comic artists who not only had the chops to excel in their craft, but they also pioneered and defined what great comic art would look like for decades to come.Ever since the 90s when artists tried to experiment with different impressionisms and realisms in their work, the quality of art has subsequently degraded, yet publishing...

Vivian James Lives!

Buzzfeed is making a comedy about Gamer Gate.(sigh) No, that is not the joke.  They are actually doing this.  When I first heard about it, I didn’t bother to report on it since I figured it was just something that was going to die in development for lack of funds.  But it would appear that this abortion is about to hit the “train is leaving the station” portion of film development.  Where the project goes from chicken tracks on a piece of paper to...

The Blip (Part Two)

One of my commenters just made me realize that Medium Bob had nothing to worry about. At least in the short term.Earth wouldn't have been anywhere near where it was when Thanos did the Snap.Which means when the Blip happened:Nova Corps Star Blaster Patrol near Earth spaceCenturion Fayne Ko-Rei: Holy shit! Did you see that?!?Centurion Kaseem Pio:  Four billion humanoids just zapped into exitance! Centurion Fayne Ko-Rei (gasping in horror): They screamed out their lungs and froze into icebergs.   I’m gonna be sick.Centurion...

Doctor Who Cancelled?

Normally there would be no need for the question mark.By every possible metric Doctor Who has become a legendary failure.  The ratings are at an all-time low.  Fan relations couldn’t be more toxic.  There are no merchandise sales.  No foreign rights sales. And now the star has allegedly jumped ship. Why would any sane or competent person renew the show under these circumstances? Please note my use of the words, “sane or competent.”Regardless, there is now a rumor making the rounds saying it's over for the...

WandaVision: Did This Actually Get Good?

In the last episode we saw Wanda’s friend, “Geraldine.” Thrown out of West View and into a modern Field Joint Ops Center.  This is the first episode where we aren’t seeing an American family sitcom from decades past.  Instead, we get our first view from the other side. It turns out that there is a town named West View but now anyone with a memory of it, has selective amnesia regarding everything to do with the town.  Monic Rambeau (Geraldine) is now an Agent...

Popculture Deathcart: GameStop

I’m smelling Tulips. As of this writing, GameStop stock is trading at $320.  This is actually crazier than Disney’s drastically inflated stock price.  Yesterday, an acquaintance of mine asked, “how do you profit off this situation at this point?”My answer was, “You don’t.  This is Tulip Fever.  The guys that were going to make a killing off this have already bailed.”For those of you wondering what Tulip Fever is:  In the mid 1500s Tulips were first imported from Turkey.  They were a bit on the rare side...

Kong Vs. Godzilla (Part Two of Two)

How can something so wrong, feel so right? In 1975 a poll was conducted on the average American.  Name the most famous Japanese person you know.  The number one answer was Godzilla. In case you are wondering, number two was Bruce Lee and number three was Hirohito.  Interesting choices since none of them are Japanese.  Emperor Hirohito came closest but there is a huge legal question mark over whether or not the royal family of Nippon is in fact, Japanese citizens. They don’t have the...
