Neal Adams Dead at 80

"Adams' death was confirmed Friday by one of his sons, Josh, on social media. Adams' wife, Marilyn Adams, told The Hollywood Reporter that her husband died in New York from sepsis complications. According to the social media posts, Adams died early Thursday; he was 80." Adams revolutionized comic book art in the 1970s, stressing anatomically correct designs in his work.  He is one of the few artists who can rightfully be mentioned in the same breath as Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, and Gil Kane.  His...

Batwoman Canceled…For Real

Even the most glorious reign must end someday. Batwoman has finally and at last been shit-canned. So has Legends of Tomorrow come to that. From the Hollywood Reporter “Just got the sad news that Batwoman will not be seeing [season four],” (Caroline) Dries wrote on Twitter. “I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes.” The cancellation comes a month after Batwoman aired its third season (and now series) finale on the network. It also comes as The CW’s owners, Warner Bros....

The 21st Century of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson -UFO

Technically, this took place in the 20th Century Any discussion of UFO has to begin with the culture of the crossover year of 1970.  The Youth Rebellion, despite what Boomers like to tell themselves and everyone else, was correctly viewed as an assault on societal values and the dominant culture at the time was determined to put it down.  Everyone hated the hippies and beating them up was a lot more mainstream than Woodstock would ever be.   However, some of the counterculture was going...

Blogs and Ends The Post Humpday Edition

I’m very pressed for time today so this one is going to be a drive by post FIRST At least he isn't creeping out the secretary anymore. World-famous hologram Hatsune Miko's marriage is in trouble.  If you have kids the right age then you know more about her than you would ever want to in a thousand years. Anyway, yeah, she got married...to a real live human about three years ago. No, I’m not joking.  Because this is the world we live in and it sucks.  But it...

The Hugos Have Been Hot Garbage For A Long Time

While listening to Larry Correa and Steve Diamond's podcast The Writer Dojo, I was reminded of something that I'd forgotten about completely. Steve Diamond was talking about his first trip to WorldCon. Also, his last. I think he'd been chumped by all of the great things Larry Niven always had to say about how great, amazing, and fantastic WorldCon always was. Possibly it was all those things in the 1970s when Larry was routinely winning Hugos for stories...

Disney’s Golden Dilemma

One of the richest neighborhoods in Orlando, isn’t in Orlando (yet) it’s in Walt Disney World.  Golden Oak is a residential development inside the borders of Disney World.  The target market isn’t really people who want to live in Disney 24/7/365. Basically, it’s for Grandpa and Grandma Snowbird, who migrate south for the winter.  It’s a way for rich geriatrics to be the grandkid's heroes. The minimum price for a home, (when one is even available) is $5 million and goes as high as...

Reimagine Tomorrow Outlawed!

This one couldn’t wait until Monday. I put not my faith in princes, and I am certain with the iron-clad cynical certainty of a Gen-Xer that Ron DeSantis will get around to betraying us someday. But this is not that day. I was so dialed in on Reedy Creek that I missed the other and frankly more important bill that Governor DeSantis signed yesterday. CRT training is now illegal in Florida. Here’s the actual wording. “… Subjecting any individual, as a condition of employment, membership, certification,...

The Dark Herald Fixes A Game of Thrones

I’ve recently gone on the record as stating that I don’t think George R. R. Martin will ever finish A Song of Ice and Fire. The last book was released eleven years ago. He’s got two books to go and Gary from Nerdrotic makes a pretty compelling argument for him not being even halfway done with the next one. Back in 2015 all of the show’s fans were saying that George RR Martin is a better author than JRR Tolkien and...

E;R Is Back

He does a quick review of Turning Red. My favorite bit was his pitch for a sequel called Going Bananas. All the men in a boy's family are under a curse. When they turn 12 they start turning into giant, long, hard bananas that will freeze stiff if they are near a girl in a swimsuit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BRslflm1gE
