The Fate of the DC Cinematic Universe

The Mass executions at Warner Brothers have gotten underway ahead of schedule. Are the firings serious? Oh, yes, my Darklings they are indeed. Ann Sarnoff, who has been doing for DC what Kathleen Kennedy has done for Star Wars, and I’m not exaggerating in the least, Ann who was born with a solid platinum membership card to the Hollywood Club waiting for her in the delivery room has been “confirmed to have left Warner Brothers last week.”   That is show-biz talk for shitcanned.   She...

Chapek’s Hostage Video

That is exactly what it freaking looks like. I was half expecting him to say, "i am treated well. i am given enough nourishing food to eat like rice and beans. i have been given a bed with a sheet to sleep on. https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1512192241959284747 This was clearly and obviously shot on an intern's laptop. His eyes are moving left to right and pausing as the text catches up to him. He's framed to look as small as possible. The only thing...

The 21st Century of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (Part 2)

The 21st century is well underway by 2022 and let’s face facts, it blows moose.  The super neato things Generation X was promised when were kids are nowhere on the horizon.  Hell, we’ve even lost ground here and there.  The last time a commercial passenger could travel at supersonic speed was nearly twenty years ago.   Although, I will grant that most of what George Orwell was promising us has worked out even better than he was expecting.  You even have your choice of Big Brothers. Hell,...

Schuyler Hernstrom’s Kickstarter Campaign

Sky Hernstrom is the writer that we were looking for back when we were first getting into RPGs. Seriously, If Robert Howard, Jack Vance, and Poul Anderson decided to do a collaboration in whatever nether world they now inhabit.  Then poured their inspiration into Sky Hernstrom's pen, I don’t see how the result would be much different. Hernstrom is a multi-talented artist working in both word and ink.  You have no idea how I envy him that second skillset in a world...

Disney’s New Mouth of Sauron

This is a major and obviously politically motivated hire for Disney. From Deadline so don't click on the link: "Kristina Schake, who has led the Biden administration’s Covid vaccination education efforts and previously served as communications director for First Lady Michelle Obama and later in a top role in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, is joining The Walt Disney Co. as its lead spokesperson. Schake will report to Geoff Morrell, the company’s chief corporate affairs officer. President Joe Biden appointed Schake last year to lead the Covid vaccination...

Heroic Archetypes Ascendent – American Eagle

I have become quite a fan of Alex Macris’ Ascendant Star Spangled Squadron If you aren’t familiar with it, then smash the link above and become familiar with it.   This webtoon is actually doing what up to now, I didn’t anybody would be doing.  Creating new superheroes based on the heroic archetypes I’ve been writing about on this blog.  Before I go any further let me make clear that Alex Marcris never read any of my articles on this subject before my interview...

The 21st Century of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson (Part 1)

“Stand-by for Action!”  A middle-aged voice barks out of the Magnavox TV’s monaural speaker in my family’s living room at 6:30 am. The Little Dark Herald is rocking back and on the floor in front of the TV, totally standing by for action.  He is not disappointed.  The ocean explodes for no reason and bongo drums start thundering away while a trumpet blasts out a challenge.  Over the next minute and twenty seconds, a submarine launches out of an underwater base, buildings slide into an...

The Disney Civil War

How long before Disney World gets rid of gendered restrooms? I now live in a world where that is a perfectly legitimate question.  And you will note that I asked, ‘how long,’ not ‘if.’  I think it really is just a matter of time. Disney parks are now a place where Sir, Mam, Boy, and Girl are now offensive terms. How long can the people that banished these crimespeak words as unbearably regressive, be able to tolerate the existence of restrooms explicitly marked...

Moonknight – First Impressions

I’ve tried to start a review for Marvel’s MoonKnight four times now and I can’t get anything down on paper.  I have standards as a pop culture reporter.  They aren’t high standards but at least I have them.  One of them being that regardless of whether or not I detest the creator, I will judge the creation on its own merit.   And I can’t seem to do that tonight. And it’s all because of Disney. What does the Disney brand mean to you?   More importantly, what...
