James Bond Dies In This Movie

James Bond Dies In This Movie

***Spoiler Alert***

If you are curious about the Rotten Tomatoes Score it is:

83% Critic’s Score (of course)

00% Audience (RT is not reporting audience scores. I wonder fucking why?)

UPDATE: This wouldn’t have been the disaster it’s going to be if EON had made it clear in Casino Royale that James Bond is a cover identity that has been passed from agent to agent since WWII. Think about it, Ian Flemming’s original Bond would have had to have been born in 1905.

Here is the Critical Drinker’s review. He’s more even-handed than I think I could manage.

I’m only surprised that RT still posts audience scores. It interferes with their shilling.

    1)”Wait, is he really dead?”
Well, we see a missile blowing up directly in front of him and the explosion engulfing him, so yeah.
    2)”Then what’s the Happy Ending?”
That he has had a daughter, of course; and no, at least she’s not called Jane.
3)”Did they still put “James Bond will return” at the end of the credits?”
4)”Doesn’t this go against the idea of Bond as the ultimate Male Escapism Character?”
    Gee, you think?

Wasn’t there an old refrigerator for him to hide in?

Nope: remember, Craig became Bond when the Grim & Gritty Reboot was still going strong.
At a guess, the next Bond will be Marvel Studios Bond, constantly poking fun at the premise of his (her?) stories while ad-libbing his way out everything.

Obviously the guy who fought the Russians in the 1950’s isn’t the same guy who dealing with cyber terrorists in the 21st century. Bond fans just assumed the timeline for the character moved as the years went by. Connery’s Bond was in World War 2, while Craig’s Bond in more recent conflicts like Northern Ireland or Cypress. The next Bond will probably be a vet of Afghanistan. The code name thing isn’t needed if the audience is willing to suspend disbelief enough.

I hear that theory from time to time, and there are some things about it I just don’t get:
1)What is the point of doing that, in-universe?
2)How do we explain the various Bonds all having the same basic characterization of “suave yet ruthless womanizer”, not to mention the same basic quirks (“Bond, James Bond”; “Shaken, not stirred”…)?
3)Moreover, while different people can be M and Q at various points in time, what about people that have actual names like Moneypenny and Felix Leiter? Does every Bond get his own version of those?

He’s just an MI6 agent. Its not like MI6 only has one agent. So why do they make a movie about him if they hate him? Its not like its hard to just create another 00x number, unless they can’t count from 1 to 9. (I know math is racist and all but damn.) But it would lack brand recognition right? “008 (insert name here)” is recognizeable pretty quick as being in the same universe but different character. They must be literally retarded since they can’t even increment an integer.

But the character would have to be likable on her own merit. That would take effort!

Drinker says it’s both better than he expected and far worse in ways he didn’t expect.
for myself, i have no intention of watching. i haven’t watched a Bond movie since the “bi-curious” scene in Skyfall. not so much because of the pro-homo agenda, but because the movie mostly bored me.

“Dead to me Already” should be the title.

    Bond is a villain.
If he were a hero, he’d be fighting against the global tyrants trying to poison the human race with mutagens.

How did the Broccoli family sign off on this? To literally kill off your cash cow franchise seems like a pretty big “oopsie.”

Barbara Broccoli has wanted a female “00” for at least 20 years. That was why we had Halle Berry miscast in Die Another Day. When that flick underperformed she had to shelve the idea. Also, I don’t think Daniel Craig was willing to sign on any other way. It was no secret that at this point he hates the role. Although, the last credit was the usual “James Bond will return in…”

I wonder if they will make up fake box office numbers like they most certainly did with Captain Marvel. My understanding is a big chunk of this film was reshot due to fans response to that “woke” abomination of a trailer they released last year. The film by all honest accounts is boring and disjointed due to rewrites and crummy writing in general, generic uninspired cookie cutter crap. The only saving grace is that the insanity of a female James Bond was abandoned. Let’s face it James Bond is dead.

Makes you wonder is the audience can give a negative score number, maybe punctuated by thrown objects and obscenities.

I’ll avoid this CF disaster, maybe watch “You Only Live Twice” again.

Personal theory: MGM is basically bankrupt and are looking for someone to sell the company to. The front runner who has indicated interest is Amazon to the tune of 8 billion dollars. Killing off the Craig version of bond was probably a part of that deal. His absence will allow Amazon to make a Bond tv show, along with reboots of other MGM ip like Stargate.
