The Hermione Question

The Hermione Question

UPDATE: And Emma Watson just thanked the planet Saturn for changing her life. W-w-what do I even say to this?

Want one, Granger?’ said Malfoy, holding out a badge to Hermione. ‘I’ve got loads. But don’t touch my hand, now. I’ve just washed it, you see, don’t want a Mudblood sliming it up.’

While I admit to enjoying the shrieks of outrage when the new Harry Potter series was announced, (because Rowling will be directly connected with it), there is now a huge question hanging over it.

Will Hermione be black?

After all, she was black in that play that everyone has forgotten about, but once a character has been Swapped or Bent they are NEVER allowed to be changed back. If the new character is roundly rejected, then that character is simply banished from existence.  Even if you have to sink an entire franchise to do it.  When was the last time you saw a new Wild Wild West anything?

Yeah, I know.  I’m racist for mentioning it. More importantly, I’m a racist for saying Hermione will be ruined if she is still race bent and she would be.

Why?

Because black women are now automatically transformed into the worst social justice Mary Sues imaginable.  Look at Shuri or Riri Williams, their only struggle is making people accept the fact that they were born the most awesome beings in all existence.

If she is race swapped in the series it will be for reasons of Diversity, Inclusivity, and Equity, then they have to re-write the character to make her a Mary Sue. You can’t be following the tenants of DIE and allow a protected character to be treated as anything other than an infallible paragon.

You cannot call a little black girl a Mudblood if your show is Woke, you just can’t do it.  If Harry Potter is going to be Diverse and Inclusive, then it will not allow the character of Hermione to develop as she did in the books.  Hermione will not be permitted to go through all of the things she went through that developed her character.  A Woke executive would rather ruin the show than deal with the kind of social backlash he/she would receive for doing so.

We’ll know one way or another as soon as the casting is announced.
