Franchise Fall

Daniel Craig is the only man on Earth who doesn’t want to be James Bond. For the past three movies every time his James Bond comes on screen you see a guy who seems to feel like an old man who has failed at all of his dreams in life and is secretly hoping that this will be the mission where he ducks too slow. And then somebody else will be handed off this cover ID that has been bouncing around...

Collecting Chuck Dixon’s Batman

Hey there, True Believers, As you know, we're big fans of The Legend Chuck Dixon's work around these parts, and he's very well known for his take on Batman, along with artist Graham Nolan. He is one of the most prolific writers on the Bat-titles, and not all of his work is available in collected editions as of now, but a lot of it is, so I'll give a nice overview of Dixon's work in Collected edition. His first Batman work in...

Marvel Comics Begins to Feel the Pinch

The long expected mass executions at Marvel Comics appear to finally be getting underway. From Bleeding Cool so please don't click on the link. "... this includes John Nee, the publisher of Marvel Comics who, amongst other things, brought League Of Legends and Warhammer to the comic book publisher, as reported by Comic Book. He had been placed on furlough, and it appears that all the affected staff had been previously furloughed as well. Formerly, John Nee had set up Cryptozoic Entertainment, had been a VP at...

The Legend Chuck Dixon Comes Out As Alpha Male

If you missed the shameless attempt at attention comic book news yesterday, DC Comics writer Grant Morrison came out as "non-binary" -- whatever that means. Grant Morrison is one of DC's late 2000s writers, known for crafting confusing, overly-complicated storylines which "reimagine" characters, much like his predecessor Alan Moore, but with far less talent than the Watchmen creator. He gained credibility with a British accent, as many of these "literary" writers do, and has dwindled from the public eye over...

The Cancerous Future State Of DC Comics

The Big 2 companies love their crossover events, even though the business model of them has frustrated many comic readers for decades, since it makes it impossible to follow the storylines of beloved characters. With DC's next event, Future State, not only are they continuing the spiral trend of the collector's market, but they're doing so by replacing said beloved characters: Introducing: The Justice They/Them! Much like Marvel tried in 2015-2016 with its "Marvel Now", DC is using the same...

Tuskan Lives Matter…For Some Reason

***SPOILER ALERT*** Lots of spoilers below.  You’ve been warned. Mandalorian Season 1 was generally speaking; “okay, I guess.”   It was certainly better than the last three movies.  It wasn’t the Breaking Bad of Star Wars but it wasn’t the Last Jedi of Star Wars either.  There was certainly more respect for the OG trilogy than was seen on the silver screen a month later.  There was more world-building too, and there was more respect for the Star Wars fanbase. There was even something cute for nerd girls...

Warner Media Sells Crunchy Roll

Sony just became the Anime monopoly. * It’s not quite in stone yet but it’s close.  According to Nikkei; Warner Media’s asking price of $957 billion has been agreed to by Sony.  which is roughly the amount that Sony’s, Demon Slayer movie has grossed at the box-office.  COVID hasn’t been a disaster for everyone. Background Crunchy Roll was founded in 2006 in San Francisco.  It’s headquarters still there…for the moment. I can't imagine what this "office space" must cost in San Francisco. But I doubt if Sony will...

Disney Tears the Heart out of Disney World

REPOST: Originally posted 10/30/2020 The Disney Difference.  That was always the big selling point.  That was what made Disneyland better than county carnivals of the 1950s. “Plusing it,” was the term Walt Disney used to describe how his theme park would always go that extra 10%. “Good enough” was never good enough for Walt Disney.  His goal was the unattainable goal of perfection.  That constant pressure to make everything that was great just a little bit better was what made the Disney Difference.  This drive attracted...

DC Comics Limits Distribution

DC is now down to one distributor. Lunar is it for the foreseeable future and there isn’t a lot of future to foresee with DC Comics.  USC was initially reported as having been dropped by DC Comics, but it turns out that was USC that dropped DC. Very quick recap, up until April of this year Diamond had 100% distribution for comics shops.  There were a number of reasons for this but one of the biggest is that no one wanted to muscle...
