Sound of Freedom: Why the Hate?
This weekend’s box office was underpowered as opposed to the gaping maw of utter fail we’ve gotten used to seeing this summer.
Mission Impossible 7 has opened with a reasonably solid $235 million worldwide. When adjusted for inflation this is a slightly weaker first weekend than Mission Impossible: Fallout. MI:7 is a much better movie than Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. A lot less CG and a lot more traditional heroism. It has its weaknesses but a lot of that is from the restrictions imposed by the Covidiocy Lockdown. While that is a legitimate excuse for its drawbacks, the drawbacks are still there. Bottom line, it’s not Mission Impossible 6 but it’s not Mission Impossible 2 either, so good enough.
However, MI:7 has a big problem on the horizon.
Tickets have become more and more expensive. So much so that a night out for a family of four is now over $100 if you throw in concessions. The attitude of the average moviegoer has become, ‘Hey, if I’m turning my wallet inside out anyway, I might as well go ham and spend big.’ The LPF screens matter a lot more than they used to. They’ve gone from a novelty like 3D to a market driver.
Christopher Nolan got a three-week lockout on the IMAX theaters about three years ago for his Oppenheimer. That is going to take a huge chunk out of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning’s second weekend. It’s not going to bomb; the word of mouth is too good for that but it’s not going to crack the billion-dollar mark either.
Another film that isn’t going to crack the billion-dollar mark is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It has clearly legged out at $302 million and with a lot of luck it might get another $50 million out of its theatrical run but as it is Disney is going to be taking home about $175 million from the theaters. Indy V likely cost $330 or more to produce. Probably $200 million to market and then there are the interest payments and backend deals. Capital losses will likely be around $300 million+, opportunity losses are much higher than that.
I suspect Kathleen Kennedy will survive this disaster for two reasons. First, Pixar is a basket case. It is in so much worse shape than LucasFilm that it has to be dealt with first by Iger. Second, Kennedy has dug such an abyss of complete and total franchise collapse that no one in his right mind would want the job of president of LucasFilm.
Disney is committed to one final bomb in a galaxy far, far away. After that LucasFilm will have its budget slashed to the bone and it will be stuck producing books, comics with maybe a cheap TV show once in a while. Whether Kennedy stays or goes LucasFilm is dead.
Blumhouse’s Insidious the Red Door has so far made $122 million worldwide for Sony Pictures against a budget of $16 million. It probably has a week or two left before it legs out. I didn’t watch it, I’m not going to, and I’m not the market for it. However, the audience for this franchise clearly remains strong. They know what they want and Blumhouse knows how to give it to them. Honestly, I’ve paid so little attention to the Insidious movies, it was news to me this was a franchise. At the end of the day, the return on investment is excellent, and it’s going to have a decent shelf life on video and streaming. Sony has a right to be laughing at Disney.
Finally, we come to the little film that could. Sound of Freedom is sitting at $85 million and that is strictly domestic. There is effectively no international release and there doesn’t appear to be plans for one except for UK and Australia.
Those releases might well be in jeopardy due to the controversy surrounding Sound of Freedom. The level of hatred this film has engendered from the left is unnatural. I mean, yeah sure you have retards like Grace Randolph who didn’t talk about Sound of Freedom at all until it was clear what narrative had been decided upon by the Hollywood hivemind. A zero like her is always going to Believe in Thing because she has no beliefs of her own other than she believes she wants to be a successful Hollywood shill. But they are of no importance because they never are. They are followers, never leaders.
Some of this was simply Hollywood’s reflexive anti-Christianity. Except for some of the more extreme shithead atheist actors, Tinsel Town knows it can’t get away with wearing its anti-Christianism on its sleeve. Not just yet anyway.
Fortunately, the Rothschilds sent a family member to CNN to be “deeply concerned” about something. That something was NOT child sex slavery. Oh, that was mentioned. Briefly. Just long enough to be dismissed as not being the “real story here.”
The real story is apparently Qanon.
This movie started life in 2016, was written no later than 2017, and was made in 2018. I didn’t start hearing about Q on the regular until early 2019.
Q was the big thing for a while but not all that much these days. This is good if you are a Lefty because non-existent threats are the best kind. Always has been for the Left, just look at the millions who were purged by Stalin and how many whose last words were a loyal cry of “Long Live Stalin!”
For the Left, Q is nothing but a distraction and excuse for retarded Kool-Aid-slurping Democrats to come out against a movie about child slavery, so they can continue to ignore the problem.
Because they need to.
No Borders-Biden has created a situation where there are now more people enslaved in the United States than when it fucking legal!
The only kind of slavery they care about is the extinct kind.
From the Washington Examiner:
The Department of Justice quietly removed significant portions of its page on child sex trafficking, including information on “International Sex Trafficking of Minors,” “Domestic Sex Trafficking of Minors,” and “Child Victims of Prostitution.”
While it is unclear what prompted the revisions, conservatives pointed to the changes as a sign the Biden administration is not taking crimes surrounding child exploitation seriously.
Another section scrubbed by the department after May 12 is one on domestic trafficking, which said, “Pimps and traffickers sexually exploit children through street prostitution, and in adult night clubs, illegal brothels, sex parties, motel rooms, hotel rooms, and other locations throughout the United States.”
According to Severino, the process to change information that appears on a DOJ site is an arduous one, “so this clearly had to go through several layers of review.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) tied the Justice Department’s website change to the Department of Health and Human Services losing track of 85,000 migrant children who were released from government custody, including some forced into child labor, per a New York Times investigation.
“DOJ’s blatant move to distance Joe Biden’s harmful policies from the global crime of sex trafficking should be no surprise to any of us who have seen the blatant sexualization and abuse of children this administration is comfortable with promoting,”
The increasingly Orwellian-named Justice Department has naturally refused to comment.
That is the real politick reason that Sound of Freedom has been declared super Bad Think.
And then there is the real reason. The Prince of the Earth’s most ardent servants have such jaded tastes that only violating the innocent has the power to arouse them anymore.
And the tears of despoiled children make their Master smile.
