The Head Reimagineer Has Left Disney
Latondra “Ton” Newton, the Chief Diversity Officer at Disney and the head of Reimagine Tomorrow has left the company.
From Bounding Into Comics:
“To our extended DEI and HR team, I’m writing to share the news that Latondra Newton has decided to leave The Walt Disney Company to pursue other endeavors,” wrote Disney HR head Sonia Coleman, per a copy of the memo obtained by Variety. “Since joining the company in 2017, Latondra has led the company’s strategic diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, including partnering with stakeholders across the enterprise to amplify stories of the world by people around the world. She has been dedicated to ensuring every person sees themselves and their life experiences represented in a meaningful and authentic way.”
“I know you all join me in thanking Latondra for her many contributions, including the lasting impact she has had on our employees and our culture,” continued Coleman. “Working alongside all of you and so many others, she has inspired countless cast members and employees to bring about lasting change and to help create a world where we can all feel safe and we all belong.”
Ton Newton’s statement about her future plans are… Huh, there is no statement from Ton Newton.
You’d think she’s been shitcanned or something. Odd.
The Disney CDO has led Disney in its hard lurch to diversity, inclusion, and Maoism. She was the one that banished “boys and girls,” “Pirates and Princesses” at Disney Parks with the creepy as-hell “Friends.”
She was also one of the ringleaders in the revolt against Bob Chapek. Incidentally, she was one of the last remaining senior figures at Disney who moved hard against Budget-Cut Bob. I think the only one left is Pete Docter at Pixar but I could be wrong about that.
Newton’s departure is less cordial than Christine McCarthy’s. In fact, there were some people saying that McCarthy’s husband’s illness was a legitimate reason for her to leave. But with Newton following her out the door so fast, I think my own assessement was the more accurate one.
This is a case of; it doesn’t matter who got fired. The big question is, who is replacing her?
Right now, there is no answer to that. The position of Chief Diversity Officer at Disney remains vacant. Her division is reportedly “shaken” by her departure. No shit. The only thing Disney DAI has brought to the company is a brand rape that is almost as bad as Bud Light. Disney is in an unprecedented state of retraction and that division (which brings no income at all to the table at all) is responsible. And it’s bloated.
Let me be clear, this is no reason to think Disney is dumping the Woke. That will not happen with Bob Iger at the helm. He was brought back to protect the Woke. Mostly, what Iger is doing is banishing all of the kingslayers that took down Bob Chapek. If you brought down one CEO, why not another? Iger will not take that kind of chance.
