Steam Sale Recommendations

Steam Sale Recommendations

I meant to do this one earlier but forgot all about it.

Consequently, if you are interested in any of these you are going to have to buy them pretty much now because this sale ends tomorrow, Thurs 23.

I have all these games except Fallen Aces and plan on doing reviews on all of them. All of them have something in common, they are throwbacks to the glory days of 1990s FPS games. They are also all by New Blood, a company I don’t really know anything about. Do your own research if you’re worried about Woke.

Since I am going to review these games eventually I’ll be giving you barely any information.

Dusk

This was pretty much developed by one guy who was having to play 1990s FPS games on an obsolete computer when he was a kid and fell in love.

This was clearly and obviously inspired by the greatest of the Build engine games, Blood.

Ultra Kill

This is the one you might have heard of because some of the better-known YouTubers have streamed it.

Humanity is dead.

Hell is full.

Blood is fuel.

The name literally tells you everything about it. You are a robot fighting your way through hell… probably. Honestly, who knows for sure the devs didn’t. Not that that matters, visually it’s spectacular.

Amid Evil

It’s Heretic.

That’s it in a nutshell but I’m being horrendously unfair to this game by describing it as only that.

This is the game where one of your weapons fires literal planets and stars.

Gloowood

This one is a bit of a departure from the rest of the games on this list. All of the above games are inspired by the classic FPS games of the 1990s. In someways, each of those games manages to excel at some aspect of the individual games that inspired them.

Gloomwood has a much different inspiration. It was clearly inspired by the Theif games by Looking Glass. If you didn’t play Theif, it was the best series of stealth games of all time, not just the 1990s and please, please don’t mention the 2014 reboot.

Gloomwood’s world isn’t quite as good as Garret’s but it does manage to scratch that special itch that only the original Thief games could reach. It gets the mood right. Also you get much better weapons than you did in Theif.

Fallen Aces

This one is not for sale because it’s only a demo. Although you can download it from Steam for free.

I included it because the trailer is absolutely awesome and I’m hoping the game lives up to it.
