Ghost of the White Man’s Burden
REPOST: I have old friends over this weekend. Which has left me zero time to write today. Hope you had a good weekend.
The American game studio Sucker Punch is launching a new game for the Sony Playstation 4 called Ghost of Tsushima. The story takes place on the Japanese Island of Tsushima during the Mongol Invasion.
Here’s the backstory, Kublai Khan decided to invade Japan and lost.
Yeah, there was a little more to it than that, but it’s not really the focus of this piece. The fact is Japan was about the only county that to said, “No,” to the Mongol Empire and made it stick. They are justly proud of that.
And Sucker Punch has made a game that the Japanese absolutely love.
And here’s some gameplay:
Let me be clear, this is the kind of game I’m really not interested in. It’s a console exclusive and it was made by people who would probably rather be making movies than games. I would be shocked as hell if it was played by anybody more than once. It is, however, open-world so it will take you a while to do it all. If that’s fun for you, fine, I can’t take that away from you and I wouldn’t want to try.
On the plus side, it doesn’t feature “women” with chiseled chins and tree trunk arms who like spur of the moment butt sex. Nor so far as I can tell, no sad, angry lesbians on the vengeance trail.
Ghost of Tsushima is a story that strongly appeals to Japanese nationalism and it was made by Americans.
So what’s the problem you ask?
The problem is that the Japanese like it.
They really, really like it. Their gaming media is showering it with praise, plaudits, acclaim, accolades, laudation, and other words meaning they are super cool with it.
And according to the Critical Race Cultists, they are not allowed to. They are supposed to hate it because they have been culturally appropriated.
So far as the CRC is concerned, those filthy Japanese having been crossing a lot of big lines recently, what with their attacks on foreign (which is to say, Critical Race Cult) censorship of Japanese Manga. And now, they turn around and like something that is damn near sacred to their nationalist heritage and it was made by Americans!
Worse still, once the Critical Race Cult goes into default mode and starts attacking it for Appropriation, they won’t have a leg to stand on. It will look like what it is, White (and they May-As-Well-Be-White) Men telling the rest of the world what they can and can’t like.
And that is absolutely driving them bat-shit.
Sorry to break it to you Tony-San but the days when we would mistake “Choi” for a Japanese name are long over. Your stake in this is no better than mine.
Critical Race Cultists assumed right to patronize, pander to and protect the POCs of the Earth is so palpable it would do any nineteenth-century colonizer proud. Clearly, the Japanese can’t be trusted to protect their own cultural heritage. Only White globalists (and Chinese-Americans named “Tony”) can do that and it doesn’t help the cause at all when they turn around and like something they are not permitted to.
Side rant: Forgive me for stating the obvious but games ARE taken seriously. But if you want a game to be a movie, I got bad news for you. It’s fundamentally impossible. You can make a good movie or you can make a good game but you can’t do both at the same time.
One is passive media, the other is a construct you are actively engaged with. You are using totally different areas of your brain to enjoy these two very different things.
It’s hard enough to do one of those things. Doing both and stitching them together is a fundamentally terrible idea. You can’t have a good story if you have constantly interrupt it to play a game for an undesignated length of time. If you do limit the time, congratulations you’ve got rail shooter and they are garbage games.
Side rant concluded.
Bottomline: I love watching SJWs cognitive dissonance when their cult of POCs blows up in their face.
Okay, I’m done here.
