Alec Baldwin Indicted for Manslaughter
Alec must be pissed he thought this was all taken care of.
“A grand jury in New Mexico indicted Alec Baldwin on Friday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, reviving the criminal case against him in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the film “Rust” more than two years ago when a gun he was rehearsing with went off.”
I’m curious what changed behind the scenes.
Back in April of this year, this happened:
Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies has stepped aside and appointed a pair of special prosecutors — veteran New Mexico attorneys Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis — to take over the high-profile case.
“My responsibility to the people of the First Judicial District is greater than any one case, which is why I have chosen to appoint a special prosecutor in the Rust case,” Carmack-Altwies said in a statement today. “Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis will unflinchingly pursue justice in the death of Halyna Hutchins on behalf of the people of First Judicial District.”
The new prosecutors dropped the case almost immediately.
However, it turns out that in October Carmack-Altwies suddenly aboutfaced and sent the case to a grand jury. Since Baldwin obviously shot the woman, they indicted him.
Although Baldwin claims it was actually the gun that shot her and he was just holding it. Which now that I think of it, is technically accurate.
This trial will be nothing if not darkly amusing.
