I’ve been to the movies 3 times this year, and will probably go 3 more times before years end (spider-man, Matrix 4, MAYBE The Kings Man)

There are still movies coming out that I want to see, but for most of them I just sail the high seas. The only reason to see a movie in theatres is to go with friends and hang out after and talk about it. My friends are all over the political spectrum but I’m the only one who hangs out here or at VoxDay, so none of them have the same view I do. I look forward to the day when pedowood and the devilmouse are finally brought down, but until then, I’ll go see the occasional movie with friends.

Something that recently occurred to me: when a movie franchise fails, that usually doesn’t attract much attention – after all, even before Girlbusters or Dark Fate we weren’t getting a GB or Terminator movie a year, so the change was not very noticeable.
Disney Star Wars’ failure, on the other hand, was clearly seen: they released a movie a year from 2015 to 2019, but the TLJ/Solo combo forced them to stop; that was pretty noticeable.
Can you imagine how the dwindling and fading of the MCU will be like? They’ve been releasing multiple movies a year for some time now, with 2021 setting a new record at four*, not to mention five Disney+ shows, and they’ve already announced something like twenty projects for the next few years: it’ll be the Hindenburg disaster of franchises’ deaths.
*Btw, will there be a Dark Herald Recommends/Does Not Recommend for Spider-Man No Way Home? Or will you keep ignoring the MCU for now, DH?

Maybe after the holidays. Honestly, I’m not looking forward to it. Yeah, it’s gonna make a shit-load of money but it’s also going to be hot garbage.
You can make one episode of an established TV show an alternate timeline episode. “Oh no! It’s Evil Spock!”
But if it’s the central premise for your movie then it’s going to be two hours of nothing but fan-service. There will be no stakes and no dramatic tension at all because if someone gets killed you can just find a replacement in the dimension next door.
It’s going to be like the Force Awakens in that respect. People are going to think it was super-great after they first see it but in six months everyone is going to change their minds and decide it was actually garbage.
Which is hilarious because that is about the time that Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is coming out.

I admit, it will be more of a priorty for me if Zendaya’s Mary Jane gets killed and replaced by an actress who should actually be playing the role, but they aren’t going to do it.

I agree with everything you’ve written, and must add that even now many people are saying “the plot is weak but it’s worth it for the fanservice”.
Nevertheless, I think you should write something about it, because the ending is… let’s say interesting. I won’t give away too much, but Holland’s Parker goes through a bigger Soft Reboot than Thor, which includes getting rid of Zendaya – although without killing her.

My wife and I sat down earlier this month to think through “what are the good Christmas movies we want to watch with out 3 kids under 7”

It is a precious short list, probably because the folks making entertainment have been atheist J’s since the 40s.

Die Hard isn’t kid friendly, so it’s out.
    Muppet Christmas Carol kinda works.
    It’s a wonderful life isn’t a Christmas movie.

Somehow we settled into VeggieTales. All six of their Christmas shows are functional on the low side and encouraging entertainment on the high side… I think DarkHerald even did a good write up on one a few years back.

Y’all have anything beyond that for families with young ones?

Home Alone is a good Christmas movie for kids I think.

Also, you could try reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to them as a serial bedtime story, as that has the idea of it being winter but never Christmas which it seems we are getting closer to every year nowadays.

The current Spiderman contract between Sony and Disney expires with this movie.
All of Peter Parker’s friends and family characters had to be legally distinct for this contract. This is the “25% different” rule.
What this means is that if Sony and Disney don’t sign a new deal then Zendaya’s Mary Jane is “locked.” Neither company can use her, or for that matter the fat Asian kid. Presumably Aunt May as well.
Tom Holland is a different matter. He clearly only needs a new costume and he’s covered. You can tell this is the case because he is making all kinds of noise about how he is ready to move on and give someone else a chance. Translation: pay me big time if you want me back.

Anyone hear about the rumors that Harrison Ford is going to play Han again on the new Boba Fett show? Or he is at least letting his likeness be used in some capacity.

“Anyone hear about the rumors that Harrison Ford is going to play Han again on the new Boba Fett show?”
I seriously doubt that, especially since it would take some massive de-aging technology.
“Or he is at least letting his likeness be used in some capacity.”
RoboHan, on the other hand, is almost a given: it’s not like Filoni has that many clever ideas, and RoboLuke objectively worked to garner interest, so…
Heck, we’ll probably get RoboLeia in Ahsoka.

Doomcoock is the source of this rumor. So, I’d take it with a grain of salt.
Ford famously wanted Solo dead for decades which is why it’s doubtful.
On the other hand, Chapek is very data-driven and the Return of Luke was such a big deal that I can see that miser resentfully opening the purse strings to pay Harrison Ford enough money to allow his image to be used. I can also see the Return of Han being a gigantic priority for Disney execs especially after the year they’ve had.
Would Ford allow it? That is the big question. He hates the character. But he also hates being one-upped by Mark Hamil and the Return of Luke was a huge success for him. Harrison Ford might allow his image to be used out of pride and financial compensation.
      So, maybe.

Amazon in the latest episode of WoT decided to bring in Rey Palpatine. 110 pound Aiel-woman beats kills a dozen armored knights while pregnant and in Labor!!

In labor and Badly wounded a surviving knight with a Heron sword helps her deliver and takes the child. At least they finally allowed a ginger character remain a redhead.

I’m noodling an idea for a post called, The Horror of Christmas.
In northern and western Europe, Christmas is more closely associated with ghost stories and monsters.
I’m not sure what it says about America that we decided to push all that stuff on to Halloween.
There was more to The Nightmare Before Christmas than I thought.

first half of Cataline’s Spiderman prediction is playing out:

eh, my opinion about TFA has never changed. it’s not “garbage”, but everything good in TFA was stolen from the original trilogy. remember when Stickwick was yelling at me because i was all “meh” about TFA on release? so why shouldn’t i just watch the OT (fvck you, George)?
objectively, i would still rank TFA ahead of all the prequel movies with the possible exception of RotS … but i’m never going to bother watching either TFA or RotS again so i consider the point moot.
i’d rather watch Ol Yeller than either of those two snoozefests.

Tell me if there may be something to this or if I’m becoming paranoid…
Is it possible the kinda-creepy Spider-Man/Iron Man relationship in the MCU is meant to be some sort of pedophile/grooming fantasy? Admittedly, this impression might have been influenced by stuff like Tom Holland doing a music number in drag and him going out with Zen “I’m as straight as Hillary Clinton” Daya, but there it is.

James Dean was giving blow jobs in the 1950s ( and there are semi-credible stories about Cary Grant and others from even earlier ) in order to get ahead in Hollyweird and you’re actually wondering if that was “intentional”?
what, you actually need Bryan Singer to direct the movie?

Oh, f**k, the Star-Lord/Yondu relationship in Guardians was another pedo fantasy, was it not? “He may have been your father, but he wasn’t your daddy”, indeed.
