The Gods of the Copybook Headings

AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turnThat Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,So we left them...

Disney Gives Up Without a Fight

In 1990 Universal Studios Orlando opened up. The idea was to use it as a combination of movie studio and theme park attraction. Michael Eisner immediately set about making MGM/Disney Studios in Walt Disney World. Both were a failure. at least as far as the movie studio thing went, it turned out to be a wildly impractical idea, there weren't that many people from Hollywood who were willing to work in Orlando. It's hot enough in LA, why add muggy...

Hump Day Dump 6/26/24

I was counting on the new James O’Keefe leak to provide me with material tonight.  I’m afraid he let me down in a pretty serious way.  The Indian guy O’Keefe nailed is so low-level he may as well have been interviewing a gate guard at Disneyland. My typical reader has a more knowledgeable opinion about Disney’s leadership than “Steve from Tech Support” here.I guarantee this dude is too low-level to have an NDA.  If he hadn’t been dumb enough to...

The LucasFilm Heathers

I was honestly kind of surprised when Brett Cooper spoke up on Leslye Headland's behalf. It turns out she had worked for Headland on a show called Heathers that Paramount buried for political reasons. It was only loosely based on the 1988 movie. In this TV version, the Heathers are "body-positive queers," and they are the ones that bully the entire school by simply threatening to destroy anyone who opposes them with accusations both online and IRL. Now that is...

The Iger Succession

I know it seems like Bob Iger is never going to leave but that is only because he hasn’t. So why do I think he is? Being the CEO of Disney used to be the best job in the world so far as he was concerned.  Being the popular boss of the most beloved company in America which is also the number one company in movies, theme parks, and even sportscasting, is the dream of every business major in Hollywood. ...

The O’Keefe Disney Bombs (Chapter One)

How does O’Keefe do it?  Well, actually that’s pretty easy.  First, you study the senior executives and try to determine who is the most vulnerable to what bait, and likely why they might be loose-tongued.A white male executive at Disney who appears to be overdue for promotion and is single, works nicely.  By now someone at Disney has told him, “Look, my dude, it’s not happening. Taniqua is getting that job instead of you.  Don’t make me say why, because...

Why I Hate the Killing Joke by The Legend Chuck Dixon

“The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own. I don’t think it gave life to the orcs, it only ruined them and twisted them; and if they are to live at all, they have to live like other living creatures.”That pretty much describes most of the career of Alan Moore. V-For Vendetta appears to be an original work, so was the Ballad of Halo Jones (I think). Aside...

Andrew Stanton Returning to Pixar

Even the most glorious reign must end one day.  Disney’s legendary eighteen month long bombing run finally came to an end with Inside Out 2. After a five year drought and in a year with almost no releases; a low risk sequel to a successful kids movie that Bob Chapek greenlit, has pulled in $295 million in its opening weekend.Inspired by his predecessor’s success, Bob Iger has announced that Andrew Stanton will be directing Toy Story 5 for 2026. Barely. ...

Carnage Again I sing my cheerful songWhat can I control todayI’ll sort the books, I’ll file the filesPretend that nothing’s wrong But then my bubble burstsMy illusion of contented control disappearsAnd I dissolve in tearsConfusion and helpless rage But still I sort, still I fileCheeks wet and makeup streamingMy friends wondering why I act so oddlyStrangely knowing better than I do that it’s time for me to restOnce in awhile I do I tell myself “it’s done, I’m better, I won’t...
