Skull and Bones Cost $850 Million?!?!

IF true, then Yasuke is the least of Ubisoft's troubles. Sweet summer child that I am, I had thought that the disaster of Skull and Bones had at least been a manageable disaster. It had a reported budget of $200 million, which I had figured meant $400 million. Terrible but given my assumed strategic depth Ubisoft has, it was survivable According to a report from Endimyon the money spent was somewhere between $650 and $850 million. This is not survivable....

Know Your Place Echo Males!

Joker 2 (no I won't call it by its proper name) is a disaster at the box office and I'm pretty sure everyone is Hollywood is delighted. The Joker was a massive surprise hit Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix had just wanted to make their own Martin Scorsese film. By putting Di Niro in it, the two were basically saying we are remaking Taxi Driver. Nobody would have funded that, so they made a superhero skinsuit movie. Just...

Ubisoft to be Bought Out?

Obviously, it's going to be bought out the only question has ever been by whom? Ubisoft is bloated. It has according to its own website more than 45 studios across the world and better than 20,000 employees. Currently. Severe cuts are unavoidable after the year it's had. That Park Place is predicting it could be as high as 40%. At a minimum, it will be around 4,000 heads rolling in the first rounds of cuts. The company has become...

RE:View Howl’s Moving Castle

“Calcifer,” Sophie said, “were you ever a falling star?” Calcifer opened one orange eye at her. “Of course,” he said. “I can talk about that if you know. The contract allows me to.” “And Howl caught you?” said Sophie… Roy Disney was the head of Disney’s animation department during the Eisener years. He grabbed that division when Eisner, Wells, and Katzenberg were dividing up the company when the new regime took over.  The Last of the Disneys had a genuine appreciation...

Nothing I Can Say Will Make This Funnier

Rocksteady Studio is living up to its name. They have clearly vowed to go down swinging. They won't give up on DEI until the power company cuts the lights for non-payment. Which will be soon because Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League had a peak player count of 160 last night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U767rU8jCK8

Vampire Rules (Part II)

REPOST: It's Halloween season so a few things are getting bumped for the next few days. ******************** In 1931 Universal Film Studios was faced with a fairly serious problem.   They had a decision to make and no matter what that decision was, they were going to lose money on it.  They had to do it now, they couldn't put it off any longer.  Al Jolson's The Jazz Singer (1927) had completely rewritten the rule book. It was a rulebook that was only about 15...

Vampire Rules (Part I)

REPOST: It's Halloween season so a few things are getting bumped for the next few days. ******************** “I am quite convinced that there is no doubt whatever that the events here described really took place, however unbelievable and incomprehensible they might appear at first sight. And I am further convinced that they must always remain to some extent incomprehensible.” – Bram Stoker I debated calling this piece Vampire Rules Suck.   Nominal good taste won out.  Midnight’s War is the Arkhaven title that currently holds...

First Impressions: The Penguin

This show is both a success and a failure. It succeeds in being a truly excellent gangster drama.  The series takes place in The Batman movie setting, at the end of which, the seawall surrounding Gotham City was broken (just accept it) and the city had been flooded.  That’s just background setting and continuity. More important so far as this show is concerned, Gotham’s Godfather, Carmine Falcone is dead.  Shot down in the street. The new head of the Falone family is...
