Dune: Prophesy – Final Trailer
TV shows don’t usually take four years to launch. It started life as Dune: The Sisterhood. The series is based on one of the prequel books by Brian Herbert and Keven Anderson that I’ve never read. It was part of their trilogy on the founding of the Great Schools, (the Suk, Mentat, and of course Bene Gesserit schools) after the Butlerian Jihad.
It’s been in pre-production so long that quite a few members of the original cast have dropped out. Or been replaced with less expensive names. Emma Watson had been (a little on the nose) cast as one of the Harkonnen sisters. She is now out and been replaced with an actresss, whose work I am familiar with but who has never been a headliner. View it as House of the Dragon, levels of fame.
They haven’t said the quiet part out loud yet but this was clearly a case of them having a property that looks like gold but they had to workshop it to take all of the suckiness out of it.
The project started life when Ann Sarnoff’s reign of IP destruction was in full swing at Warner Brothers. Given Emma Watson’s casting it was going to be a heavy-handed girl-boss TV show. Those plots appear to have been skimmed off. What is left looks promising. But then that is the job of a trailer after all.
