More Bad News For Disney

In a major shakeup, Jon Lassetter has moved to Netflix. I was kind of surprised about this myself.  Skydance Animation has a huge production deal with Apple TV, it was part of a package deal that predated Lassetter’s joining the company. At the time everyone assumed Apple was taking on Disney head-to-head. Which is a little odd when you think about it. Frankly, the relationship between Disney and Apple has been an unusually close one since Iger bought out Pixar. Bob...

It Was Too Good to Be True

The Christopher Nolan plan for a trilogy of classic 1960s-era James Bond movies appears to be dead in the water.Barbara Brocolli has announced plans to further vandalize Ian Fleming's spy hero by... (*easy stomach, don't turnover) Reimagining James Bond for the modern world. The problem is that James Bond's fans aren't as deep into superhero, fantasy, and science fiction as genre fans. Most of Bond's fans are Culturalists and Flirts. Bond's fans are mostly normies, and normies haven't seen...

Zack Snyder Sinks His New Franchise

Zack Snyder's upcoming Rebel Moon is supposed to be a new franchise that will challenge Star Wars.Admittedly, this is pretty much like challenging the Walking Dead to a ballroom dance competition at this point, but it was nice to know somebody at least wanted to be number one.Now the truth is, I had serious doubts about Rebel Moon from the start because it IS from Zack Snyder. While he is a decent director, he is a very weak storyteller....

DC Writer Begging For Sales

This is so sad.And yet so funny. This is DC writer Tim Sheridan, begging the internet to buy his Gay Green Lantern title to "own Comics Gate." https://twitter.com/RippaGoalposts/status/1715127008676753554 Yeah, obviously...Look guys, Comics Gate is over and the Big Two lost bigly. What was CG has turned into is a revived and hyper-successful indie comics scene. It's not a rebellion anymore. It's a business model. The reason the old indie comics scene petered out was because back in the 1990s there...

The Dark Herald Does Not Recommend Hocus Pocus 2

REPOST Halloween 2023:********* I was going to be doing a review or at the very least a First Impressions of Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher. For the first fifteen minutes, it was absolutely fantastic. This show wasn't just doing Usher, it was bringing all of the Edgar Allen Poe. Five minutes in and there had been references to The Raven, Tell-Tale Heart, Cask of Amontillado, and the lead prosecutor pursuing Roderick Usher was named...

Is DC Comics Back on the Chopping Block?

I had assumed and not without reason that DC had survived the Great Zaslav Purge. DC Comics was peeled down to the bone to include losing their office spaces but they kept churning out their sludge month after month even after they had been ordered to assemble character bibles for their intellectual properties. Being in comics and told to assemble character bibles is the equivalent of an IT engineer being told, "This is our new hire Rajeesh. I need...

The Dark Herald Recommends Truth Seekers

BUMPED FOR HALLOWEEN (10/17/23): This review dates from before Amazon decided in its infinite tastelessness, to cancel it. There is a lot of new material I added.Remember when Doctor Who didn't suck? Yeah, I know it's been a while. But fourteen years ago, it was something special. The first season was a pretty decent reboot but the show really found its footing in the second year. The best episode of that season was easily the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit a...

The Marvels Gloomy Box Office Projection

Marvel Studio’s last mega-budget project for this year is The Marvels. The once invincible superhero movie company has undergone a box office collapse this year. The last big success with the Marvel name on it was Spiderman No Way Home (2021), which unquestionably blew the doors off at $1.9 billion but was questionable as a “Marvel Film”. It felt a lot more like a Sony film than what Kevin Feige has been launching since Endgame. The final tally for Doctor Strange...
